The "P" System

Hi Friends
Welcome to a todays newsletter,
To start with some correspondence, An eagle eyed reader sent this in over the weekend,

Seems Charley read my newsletter on Plumb Bobbing from last week and had a very respectable 5th place finish in the Scottish Open @DundonaldLinks
I look forward to watching her “Plumb Bob” some more this week at St Andrews for the AIG Women’s Open

The home of Golf
Now for today’s subject I will be talking about the “P” system. Used within the golf swing by multiple world class tour pros and coaches,
The origins of this seem to come from a golfing enigma,
A guy called Mac O’Grady.

Mac working with Seve while a young Billy Foster looks on holding the umbrella
The story of Mac O’Grady is a newsletter all in itself, the guy has been described as a tortured genius by Golf Digest, has won on the PGA Tour, been Seve Ballesteros swing coach (He actually told Seve to go into the desert dig a hole and metaphorically bury his old swing in it !!)
I know someone who has attended a number of Golf schools run by Mac, But every participant is sworn to secrecy and its a major betrayal to divulge his “secrets”.
However there are a number of former pupils who have broken that trust and there is info out there so I will share a deeper dive in the future.
Anyway, Mac invented (as far as I can ascertain) this system to have a simple way of communicating with his players the techniques required at each position. Basically breaking down the swing into manageable parts and then being able to focus on the correct position and feels at each one.
The graphics below, are a great visual representation of each position.

So there you have it - The “P” swing system.
Now when someone says I really like your P7 position or if you could get your club face a little more closed at P2 you’ll now know exactly what they mean.
Thanks for reading and happy golfing,

JT/Jerry 😃
