New Post #20

A little putting update

Hi Friends

A quick one today and a little addendum to Tuesday’s Putting (woes) newsletter.

I told you, that I hadn’t had a single round of golf without a 3 putt the whole of 2024.

Well, I played the very day after that post, and in desperation, I turned to a new grip.

Something popped up on my YouTube recommendations, it was from a golf coach I’d never heard of or seen before. He has a very small channel and he was showcasing using an pretty unconventional putter grip. I thought why not give that a try?

So I did, and I didn’t 3 putt once; I had less than 30 putts and shot level par gross. Well done me 😀

The morale of the story………………

If you’re going through “Putting” hell, keep going.

What’s the grip I used?

Very very strong right hand, weak left hand. it’s almost like a reverse pencil grip with the right hand. Seemed to stabilise my stroke anyway.

Now for the actual point of this newsletter,

I meant to add this chart to the stats section of the last putting newsletter. The really interesting part is that at 36ft 3 putts are more common then 1 putts and the %’s change very quickly as the distance increases - so not only do you have to putt better to reduce your putting stats but also hit it closer.

The chart is from the instagram page of James Jankowski a dedicated putting coach - I can fully recommend following his channel.

I suppose in aid of transparency I should add that I played again yesterday and had three 3 putts in the first 9 holes but then Rome wasn’t built in day!

Hopefully coming soon to “A Round with Jerry”, interview with this County A Captain and Surrey legend,

Thanks for reading,

Au revoir,

JT/Jerry
