New Post #16 Technique Tuesday
The Tiger 5

Hi Friends
To start we have some correspondence, a reader advised me of a great golf book and said I should recommend it here. It’s called the “Secret Tour Caddy” and is written by an anonymous writer who is a veteran professional caddy and wrote about a year on tour from inside the ropes - sounds like a great read, thanks “Moose” for the recommendation.

This week we shall have a look at the Tiger 5.
Tiger woods has 5 “rules” that he uses to try and ensure he is scoring his best, and you too can use these to measure and improve your golf game,
Remember these rules are for Tiger and he is a little better than some of us, so maybe modify them slightly to your level of golf.
Rule #1: No 6s on Par 5s
Is there anything worse than a 3 putt par on a par 5? Yes there is, and that’s a bogey. In theory we should be at worst hitting in a short iron for our 3rd shot or even getting in and around the green in 2. So therefore Tiger views a bogey on a par 5 as a cardinal sin. As I said he is a little better then most of us but you can always adjust this to suit your handicap, maybe no double bogeys on par 5s?
Rule #2: No Double Bogeys
Double bogeys hurt your scores fast. Should go without saying we need to limit these but do we sometimes try and save par by hitting that shot we think we can pull off only to get ourselves in worse trouble and bring double into play? yes we do.
Rule #3: No 3-putts
I hate 3 putts and I cannot lie, especially since I average at least 2 a round, that’s 2 shots off my handicap I could achieve just by following this rule. Maybe I should take my own advice and do something about this!!
Rule #4: No Bogeys With 9-irons
In theory here you’ve hit a great drive and are in prime position to take advantage. So then Tiger feels that if you have a 9 iron or less in your hand, then you should not be bogeying that hole. Hit the green, take your 2 putts and move on to the next hole.
Rule #5: No Blown Easy Saves
We’ve been here, just missed the green and are sitting just off the fringe and have a nice easy straight forward chip, should be an easy up and down. But then we thin the ball through the green and into the bunda, making a bogey or worse. Tiger says this is a no no, don’t do it!

Poetry in motion
If you track these this 5 rules you will have a really good idea on what you need to improve upon and practice and what to talk to your PGA professional about when getting your next lesson.
See the below YouTube video with Scott Fawcett (The man behind decade golf) talk in more depth about the “Tiger 5”
Coming very soon, a return of the “Elite golfer” interview series,
A Surrey legend who has previously played on the now defunct Euro Pro tour and is a current club champion in Archery of all things!
Thanks for reading and happy golfing
